Consult the Traffic Flow Maps for more information. The Horizon Honors Code of Conduct applies in all designated parking lots. Horizon Honors Schools is not responsible for theft or damages in parking lots.

  • Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in a student's success. Students are expected to attend school every day that school is in session. Families are encouraged to schedule vacations, appointments, and other activities outside of school hours whenever possible.

    Reporting an Absence

If your student will be absent, please email attendance@horizonhonors.org before 9 AM on each day of the absence.

    Include:

    1. Student's full name (with correct spelling)
    2. Date of the absence
    3. Grade level
    4. Reason for the absence
    5. Parent/guardian phone number

Arizona law requires schools to document the reason for every student absence. If a reason is not provided within 24 hours, the absence will be recorded as unexcused.

More information is available on our Attendance Webpage.

    • Any time a student arrives after the official start time, the student is required to sign-in at the front desk.
    • To excuse a late arrival, a parent must sign a student in with the reason or e-mail within 24 hours.
    • Parents picking up students early from school are required to report to the front desk and sign the student out. Only a parent or adult designee (age 18 or over) with valid ID who is listed as an emergency contact in PowerSchool may sign a student out of school.
  • Elementary (K-6) School staff will be present to monitor student drop off and pick up 15 minutes before and after the school day begins and ends.  Students dropped off earlier or picked up later than these times must be enrolled in Club Horizon or in a school-sponsored activity. Students NOT in a school-sponsored activity or in Club Horizon MUST leave campus.  There is NO supervision for students before 7:45 a.m. or after 3:30 p.m. Elementary School students are not permitted on the Secondary School campus or at Mountain Park Community Church.

Drop Off: Campus will open for Kindergarten and Grades 5-6 beginning at 7:45 a.m. and for Grades 1-4 beginning at 8 a.m. Students will not be allowed on campus prior to their designated arrival time. Students will proceed directly to their classroom at their drop-off time.

Pick Up: K-6 Students will be dismissed only from their individual classrooms via the outside classroom doors. Students are expected to be picked up or walk home immediately after school (with prior written permission) unless they are participating in a club or extracurricular activity. Drive-through pick-up only. Families are not permitted to walk onto campus for student pickup. Adults will use the traffic flow map to drive through to pick up their child and should have their child’s name and classroom posted on their dashboard.

  • If you are a parent escorting your Elementary School student to a classroom before school begins, you do NOT need to check in at the office. However, if you plan to be on campus after drop off, you must check in at the office.

Horizon Honors Schools uses the Raptor Visitor Management System to strengthen campus safety. Part of keeping our community safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system allows us to do that.  The Raptor system also allows us to screen visitors in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff.

For all visitors to campus during school hours:

    • Upon entering a Horizon Honors School Office, a visitor will need to present a driver’s license or other U.S. government-issued ID. Please plan to ALWAYS have your driver's license/ U.S. government-issued ID with you when you visit campus.
    • The Raptor system will check to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our school campuses without our knowledge.  The Raptor system checks the visitor's name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders.  The registered sex offender database is the only official database checked by the Raptor system.  No other data from the ID is gathered or recorded, and the information is not shared with any outside agency.
    • Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit.  A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or conduct front office business.
    • The next time a visitor comes to campus that has already been processed in the Raptor system, he/she may use the self-serve kiosk to sign in with a driver's license/ U.S. government-issued ID and print a visitor badge.
    • All visitors who leave campus prior to 3:45 p.m. must return to an office and check out via the self-serve kiosk.

  • Every student has intrinsic worth based upon who he or she is and not what he or she wears. Horizon Honors Schools wants to create an environment in which each student can develop those innate qualities, focus on learning and contribute in a positive way to the community. Cultural pressures related to clothing choice can distract students and undermine that positive environment. The adopted dress code encourages self-discipline, safety, and modesty and will still allow students to be creative in exercising choice.

  • Horizon Honors values providing multiple opportunities that enrich student learning. To support these expanded programs, additional funds are needed above and beyond what state funding provides. As a result, we ask our families to pay additional fees, which represent only a portion of the costs required to provide the programming.

All course and supply fees will be available after July 1 and payment is due prior to the first day of school. Additional fees for athletics, field trips, and other events are assessed as needed. Fees not paid by the deadline will become fines and may restrict participation in events and extra-curriculars. Fees listed are only approximate and are subject to change. Fees are paid online via PowerSchool and/or in the School Offices. There are fee waivers available in the offices.

    Horizon Honors Secondary School Fees:
Students with unpaid fines (including library, field trips, electives, etc.) may not participate in extra-curriculars (including Athletics, travel trips, promotion trips, High School Commencement Ceremony, Middle School Celebration, etc.) until fines have been paid or an alternative option has been approved by the Principal.

    • Optional Consumable Class Supply Fees – approximately $75 per student, provides personal supplies used by students and technology supplies. (Waiver available in the offices.)
    • Elective Fees – approximately $50-$175 per elective, covers specific course materials and supplies for certain elective courses. Not all electives have a fee.
    • Virtual AP & Virtual Elective Fees – approximately $100-$200 per elective, must be paid prior to the initiation of each online course.
    • Extra-curricular & Other Fees – varies significantly depending on activity, provides for activities such as field trips, special assemblies, school-sponsored clubs, theatre arts, and athletics.
  • Horizon Honors Schools provide Special Education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA.) The schools also provide services under the American with Disabilities Act Section 504 (ADA) to ensure equal education opportunities for all students. Horizon Honors Schools employ Special Education teachers appropriately certified by the Arizona Department of Education.

    Identification/Evaluation
When a student enters a Horizon Honors school with any formal plan or previous placement, the school team may convene to review the plan or will notify you of the implementation of the plan. If a currently enrolled student’s teachers and/or the student’s parents suspect a disability, the pre-referral process will be initiated.

    Placement Services
After a student has been evaluated, a multi-disciplinary team (MET) meeting will be conducted to determine eligibility.  As a result of this MET, an IEP or 504 plan may be created by the team. Students identified with learning, emotional or physical disabilities are an important part of Horizon Honors. Plans are reviewed annually and at a team member’s request.

  • Students may bring their own lunches or parents may elect to participate in the catered lunch service, providing lunch at a reasonable cost. Horizon Honors contracts with well-known restaurants to provide different food selections each day. Lunches are ordered in advance.

Horizon Honors is proud to partner with local vendors to offer a variety of menu choices including vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options. More information is available on our Lunch Webpage.

Any food dropped off at the school needs to occur during the lunch period and may only be dropped off via a parent/guardian or emergency contact person. Classes will not be interrupted for lunch deliveries. The school offices are not responsible for storing and delivering lunches.

Food delivery services during lunchtime will only be allowed due to special circumstances and with prior parent/guardian notification. Food and drink delivery services will not be allowed during other times of the day.

  • Google Classroom is used in grades 3-4 to provide course and classroom resources. In grades 5-6 it is also used to create, assign, and collect student classwork and homework. Teachers integrate the Google suite of products to provide feedback for in-progress and completed work, and communicate with students.

  • As part of their Google Classroom access, all students have access to their own Horizon Honors email account. This account is used for class and school activity communications.

  • Families receive school news and activities via weekly emails via Parent Square. Horizon Honors also utilizes websites and social media channels such as Instagram and Facebook. In the event of an emergency, parents/guardians will be notified via phone, email, and text message via Parent Square.

In order to receive communications from Horizon Honors, families should check contact information on file annually, and contact the school immediately when there is an update.

  • Families play a significant role in the learning process. Teachers share feedback with students and parents regularly to reach their goals via Individual Learning Plans (ILPs.) Parents and guardians may also participate in the Schools Improvement Team and volunteer in a variety of ways.
