The time has come for celebration, closure, and new doors opening to your next steps as you move beyond high school.  Thank you for your continued patience as we waited as long as possible to negotiate the best available scenario for commencement.

To determine the best course of action for our 2020 ceremony, we had to consider restrictions put in place by the venue, Maricopa County, and the state of Arizona, as well as other restrictions, mandates or guidelines we, as a school, are subject to at this time.  This week we reached out to the Governor’s Office to request permission to hold graduation since we would be over the 50 person limit for gatherings.  We were then referred to Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiciccio’s Office for an exception.  His office has granted us permission to move forward with option 4, which I previously presented: graduates only.  The venue has only been allowing the gathering of groups of ten or fewer.  As of this morning, they have agreed to accept the exception granted by the city.

So, with all that said, graduation will occur August 1st, with the graduates and only the required Horizon Honors staff to support the event.  Commencement will be livestreamed so all family members can participate in the celebration wherever they are.

Now that we know our constraints, we are working on additional options to engage family members.  We are looking at parking lot possibilities including a big screen broadcast, a processional of the graduates outdoors as well as indoors, and more.  We will share details as soon as we know what we can provide.  Prioritizing the health and safety of our students and staff remains the highest priority, so unfortunately we will not be able to host senior brunch.
