Welcome Horizon Honors Families! We are excited to see all of you for a great 2018-2019 school year! Please plan to be part of all we do! Please make sure to read this post in its entirety so you will have all the important information you need for the upcoming school year.

STUDENT SCHEDULES
Student schedules are now available on PowerSchool. Returning families should login at https://horizonclc.powerschool.com/public/. New families may setup their PowerSchool account athttps://horizonclc.powerschool.com/public/create_multi_student_account.html?​ using the instruction sheets they received during the registration process. If you have any questions regarding setting up the account, please send an e-mail to powerschool@horizonclc.org. We will also have printed student schedules available at the Open House and Soaring Eagle Day.

OPEN HOUSE
Horizon Honors Secondary will be hosting an Open House on Friday, July 27th.  Students and family members are welcome to drop in anytime between 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Stop in and walk your schedule, meet your teachers, checkout your textbooks. Get your student ID in the Media Center if you do not have a Scholastic Lab. All other IDs will be created during Scholastic Lab the first week of school. You may also pickup your AzMerit and AIMS score reports in the Main Office during Open House times.

NEW TO HORIZON HONORS?
Don’t miss a special orientation for all Secondary students and their family members on Friday, July 27th at 8:30 a.m. in the Multi-purpose Room (enter through the elementary doors.)  This event is tailored to meet your needs as a new family and to get you up to speed as we welcome you to Horizon Honors.  We will be covering many topics such as Using PowerSchool, Ordering Lunches, What’s an ILP?, Google Classroom and so much more. NOTE: These sessions do not include any of the information presented in the grade level parent orientations for 7th, 9th and 12th grade described below.  A new Horizon Honors family with a 9th grader, for example, should attend both the new family session and the 9th Grade Parent Orientation. 

SCHOOL HOURS (NEW FOR 2018-2019!)
7:55 a.m. - transition to classrooms
8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Block 1/5: 8 to 9:30 a.m. 
Block 2/6: 9:33 to 11:08 a.m.
Lunch: 11:08 to 11:39 a.m.
Block 3/7:  11:42 a.m. to 1:12 p.m.
Block 4/8: 1:15 to 2:45 p.m.

Office - 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. when school is in session.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL – SOARIN’ EAGLE DAY
The first day of school is Monday, July 30th.  All students will attend school 8:00 AM – 2:45 PM with no late starts or early releases this day.  Each grade level will have a unique schedule for Soarin' Eagle Day with sessions specifically designed for that grade levels unique need.  All students will report to Blue Day Block 5 to receive the special schedule for Soarin' Eagle Day that includes 7th and 8th Grade Eagle Launch, Freshman Flying Start, Sophomore Scene, Junior Navigation, and Senior Seminar. Students on morning release will report to the Media Center.

ALL STUDENTS HAVE FEES
There will be additional information via email when the online systems are ready to receive fee payments.  Which student fees will you have? 

ALL STUDENTS: Consumable Class Supply Fees paid through PowerSchool
(Must be paid each year by the second week of school to provide personal supplies used by students and technology supplies.  Fees are not eligible for AZ State Tax Credit.​)

MOST STUDENTS: Elective Fees paid through PowerSchool
​(Must be paid each year by the second week of school. The fees cover specific course materials and supplies for certain elective courses. Not all electives have a fee. See the Horizon Honors Secondary School Scheduling Handbook (available at horizonhonorssecondary.org) for details by course. Fees are not eligible for AZ State Tax Credit.​)​ 

MANY STUDENTS: Virtual AP & Virtual Elective Fees paid through school website 
​(Must be paid prior to the initiation of each online course. See the Horizon Honors Secondary School Scheduling Handbook (available at horizonhonorssecondary.org) for details by course. Fees are not eligible for AZ State Tax Credit.​)​

You will receive a separate email on how and when to order lunches soon! 

IMPORTANT PARENT MEETINGS – THE TRANSITION YEARS
Parents of seniors, freshman, and 7th graders, please join us for an orientation designed to help you and your child successfully navigate this next developmental milestone.  Topics covered will be specific to the social, emotional, and academic needs you and your child will experience this school year.  All sessions will be held in the Multipurpose Room – please enter through the Elementary doors.  NOTE: These sessions will not repeat anything presented to New Families.  A new Horizon Honors family with a 9th grader, for example, should attend both the new family session and the 9th grade Parent Orientation.
- Welcome to Middle School Orientation for Parents of 7th Graders Wednesday, July 25 @ 5 p.m. (Parents ONLY)
- Welcome to High School Orientation for Parents of 9th Graders Wednesday, July 25 @ 6:30 p.m. (Parents ONLY)
- Class of 2019 - Welcome to Senior Year Parent Orientation Wednesday, August 1st @ 6 p.m. 

HIGH SCHOOL FALL SPORTS
Athletic paperwork for the fall is due Wednesday, August 1st.  Tryouts begin the week of August 6th.  

MIDDLE SCHOOL FALL SPORTS
Athletic paperwork for the fall is due August 8th.  Tryouts begin week of August 13th. 

ATHLETICS FEES
The Athletic Fee of $250 is required for each sport in which the student participates.  Fees are due prior to trying out; a student will not be eligible to tryout if the fees have not been paid.  If a student does not make the team, the fee will be refunded.  This extra-curricular fee qualifies for Arizona School Tax Credit and your receipt will reflect accordingly.

COFFEE CONNECTION
You won't want to miss the first Coffee Connection of the school year! On Friday, August 3rd at 8:15 a.m. both new and returning parents are invited to join us in the Media Center to meet other parents from your child's classes and much more! Coffee and goodies will be provided.
