National Merit Semifinalist -- Nik Dave
Horizon Honors Senior Nik Dave has been named a semifinalist in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program! The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Arizona has 281 Semifinalists this year.

Dave took the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last October. About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools nationwide took the test, which served as an initial screening of program entrants.

As a semifinalist, Dave will have the opportunity to compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million. The names of the Finalists will be announced in February 2018. Scholarship winners’ names will be released in four parts, beginning in April 2018.

National Merit Commended Students -- Kang Yi Lim & Tejas Markandeya
Horizon Honors Seniors Kang Yi Lim and Tejas Markandeya have been named commended students by the National Merit Scholarship Program in recognition of their exceptional academic promise. These students also took the PSAT/NMSQT in October 2016 and placed among the top 50,000 scorers. Although commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

National Hispanic Scholars -- Lauren Ospina & Noe Ramirez
Horizon Honors Seniors Lauren Ospina and Noe Ramirez have been named National Hispanic Scholars. These students scored in the top 2.5% among Hispanic and Latino PSAT/NMSQT test takers in our region.
